Koforidua, April 1, GNA- A-15-member reconstituted Eastern Regional fund raising committee of the Ghana National Trust Fund (GNTF) has been inaugurated at Koforidua with a charge on members to make the welfare of the disabled and other marginalized persons their outmost concern.
A Director at the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council (ERCC), Mr. Isaac Mensah, who inaugurated the members into office said, it was incumbent on society to make the welfare of those living on its margins a top priority and help mobilize resources to improve on their livelihood.
He said although the work of the committee would be mostly sacrificial, the ERCC was counting on their wealth of experience to seek ways of attracting and mobilizing resources in helping assist the disabled persons in the region in particular to enable them to acquire skills that will make them lead independent and fulfilled lives.
The Chairman of the committee, Major S.O Ghansah of the Salvation Army, assured that members would work out an immediate strategy in filling the three year vacuum that had lapsed in finding immediate solutions to some of its challenges.
Fund raising committees of the GNTF are statutory bodies charged with seeking ways to acquire resources to off-set the medical, educational and equipment needs of disabled persons, orphans and other indigents.
Through such avenues, the GNTF has sponsored a number of its beneficiaries to institutions such as the University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, the University of Education and other tertiary institutions.
