2020 Elections: Kumawu youth denounces MP, calls him a liar

Philip Basoah, Kumawu Constituency MP Philip Basoah, Kumawu Constituency MP

The Patriotic Youth front of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Kumawu constituency of the Ashanti region, have given its Member of Parliament (MP), Philip Basoah, a week’s ultimatum to retract and apologize for some false claims he has made or face their wrath in the coming weeks, MyNewsGh.com reports.

In a press statement sighted by sighted by this portal and signed by Frank Ntim, the Coordinator and Sefa Tweneboah, the relations officer, the Youth wing of the party claims the MP Basoah in his bid to retain his parliamentary seat has resorted to spewing propaganda to confuse delegates on his achievements.

They stated that, the MP on Kumasi-based Fox Fm in November 2019 lied that among his achievements in the constituency, he has facilitated the employment of large numbers of the Youth of Kumawu constituency into the security services including the Military, Police service, Prison service, the Fire service and the Immigration service.

They described the revelation as false and shocking and have since given the MP an ultimatum to either retract and apologize for making such falsehood or make known to the public the names and number of people he facilitated their recruitment and the towns they are from for verification to forestall any demeaning act from them.

“On the 30th of November 2019 at Fox FM, during Hard Ball, a live political talk show programme hosted by Addallah, the Member of Parliament for Kumawu constituency Hon. Philip Basoah made some pronouncements on the show which we consider to be untruth.

Hon. Basoah made mention that he had facilitated the employment of large numbers of the youth of Kumawu constituency into the security services, namely: the military, police service, prison service, the fire service and the immigration service. He even went further to add that should other colleague Members of Parliament and their constituents get to know the numbers of such recruitments he had facilitated, there will be enormous pressure on them to do same.

Ladies and gentlemen, we as Patriotic Youth of Kumawu constituency read the above pronouncements from our Member of Parliament with shivers running down our spine. We are completely shocked because we utterly cannot believe our ears when we listen to him nor can we believe our eyes when we read his statements.

We queued and voted for him and we have not traveled out of the constituency since then. We can emphatically state that from Oyoko to Woraso , from Banko to Akrokyere, from Timate to Bahankra to Mubea, not a single soul of the land has had recruitment into any of the security services which was facilitated, commenced or even finished by Hon. Philip Basoah.

We consider his statement as a mere propaganda targeted to confuse delegates to consider him as the Parliamentary primaries draw closer.

We as Patriotic Youth of Kumawu constituency per this press release is demanding that Hon. Philip Basoah, our Member of Parliament:

1. Publish categorically the number of employment he had facilitated into the military, the police service, the prison service, the fire service and the immigration service since he became a Member of Parliament.

2. Publish the name of each individual he facilitated his or her recruitment into the security services.

3. Publish which town or village in the Kumawu constituency where each person he gave employment to comes from.

We are patiently giving Hon. Basoah seven days to come out with the details requested above or retract his statements and apologized to the good people of Kumawu constituency for throwing dust into our eyes.

Ladies and gentlemen, if after one week we heard nothing from our Member of Parliament, we can assure you the press that you will hear from us again in another form.”
