259 people receive LEAP disbursement at Kpone - Katamanso

A total of 259 residents of Kpone-Katamanso District in the Greater Accra Region who are on the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme have been paid their July and August stipends.

A total of 136 beneficiaries from Kpone and 123 beneficiaries from other communities within the district received the stipend.

The LEAP programme is a social intervention programme aimed at aiding families with orphan and vulnerable children, aged above 75 years and the very poor with cash handouts.

Mrs Georgina Asare, Social Welfare Officer for the Kpone-Katamanso District, who led the team of officials from her outfit and the Ghana Post to disburse the monies, said the beneficiaries were identified with the help of local unit committee members and the Assembly members.

Mrs Asare indicated that even though her outfit did the registration, Ghana Post has responsibility to keep the money but the two organisations do the payments together.

She indicated that the monies were paid to the caregivers of the qualified residents to support their livelihood.

The Social Welfare Officer explained that for the two months’ payments, families with one beneficiary received GHC48.00.

Those with two beneficiaries had GHC60.00, while families with three received GHC72.00 and those with four and more beneficiaries qualified for GHC 90.00
