3 Nzema communities cut-off due to poor road

Teleku-Bokazo (W/R), Dec. 21, GNA - The only road linking the three communities of Teleku-Bokazo, Awiebo and Asasetre in the Nzema East District has become un-motorable thus cutting them off from the rest of the Western Region.
The about ten-kilometre road was awarded on contract for 600 million cedis to Frankett Construction Company Limited for rehabilitation but it was terminated due to poor performance on the part of the company.
Mr. Kojo Armah, the District Chief Executive disclosed this to newsmen during an inspection of the road at the weekend. He said the company constructed only two small culverts and failed to fill the sides of the road, resulting in the flooding of some parts of the road.
"This has made it impossible for vehicles to use the road and travellers are forced to walk from one side of the road to the other to their destinations" he said.
The affected communities are major cash and food crop growing areas, the District Chief Executive said.
He said the District Assembly in an attempt to assist the affected communities deposited gravel on the flooded portions of the road but this could not solve the problem.
Mr. Joseph B. Aidoo, Western Regional Minister said the contract had been re-awarded to another firm and it was expected to begin work within the next two weeks.
