300 million cedis spent on CSOs in Wassa West

Tamso (W/R), July 25, GNA - Care International, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has disbursed 300 million cedis to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Wassa West District to improve their income generating activities and development of schools this year.

The money was used to finance the Palm Oil Processing Association and the Vegetable Growers Association and for the renovation of schools and the provision of learning and teaching materials.

Mr George Baba Ajaligbong, Documentation, Information, Education And Communication Officer of the NGO based at Tarkwa, said this at a passing-out for 30 youth after a one-month training in batik tie and dye, soap making and business management.

The training was executed by the Women's Training Institute (WTI), Tamso and was sponsored by Care International. Mr Ajaligbong said the basic education and civil society project, which started in the district four year ago was in its final year of implementation.

He said the rational for the training was to equip the youth with skills to generate income, serve as trainer of trainees in their communities and to discourage them from anti-social vices.

In an address read on his behalf, Mr Emmanuel Kwasi Ayensu, Wassa West District Chief Executive, said the training was part of measures aimed at reducing poverty and to help raise the living standards of the beneficiaries.

He said "this is on employable skills one can use to better one's lot" and urged them to practice the skills acquired to better their living standards.

Mr Ayensu advised them to form groups to improve their chances of getting assistance from the District Assembly's Poverty Alleviation Fund and the banks.
