400 women farmers in Komenda get loans

Komenda (C/R), July 5, GNA- The Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) District Assembly and the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and Women's Development Fund on Monday disbursed 200 million cedis to 400 women farmers in Komenda and surrounding villages to improve upon their farming activities.

The beneficiary communities include, Brenu-Akyinmu, Ayensudu, Ampenyi, Dutch Komenda and Kissi.

Nana Ato Arthur, District Chief Executive who made this known at a ceremony at Komenda said each woman would receive 500,000 cedis with at an interest rate of 10 per cent for six months.

He said the women were made to form groups to enhance cooperation and commitment and also to ensure prompt repayment of the loans. Nana Arthur advised the women to repay the loans on time to enable others to also benefit, adding that those who would be able to repay promptly would benefit in the next batch.

Ms Christiana Essandoh, a beneficiary thanked the government for instituting the fund and said it would go a long way to improve their farming activities.

She however said, the money came a little late and suggested that the amount should always be given to them early and should also be increased so that they could increase their farmlands.

Ms Rose Arthur another beneficiary was also grateful to the government, stressing that it was the first time for women in the area to have benefited from such a facility and pledged that they would endeavour to repay the loan on schedule. 5 July 04
