5.7 billion Boadua water project completed

Kade(E/R), Sept. 30, GNA - Work on a 5.7 billion-cedi water project to provide Boadua, near Akwatia in the Kwaebibirem District with potable water has been completed.

The project, funded jointly by the Ghana Government, the German Government, the District Assembly and the community, is one of a package lined up to provide good drinking water to the various communities in the district.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Yaw Yiadom-Boakye, announced this when he addressed the Second Ordinary meeting of the Assembly at Kade on Thursday.

He said interviews for the recruitment of staff to man the project had been conducted and the selected applicants would undergo a training programme prior to the inauguration of the project in the next few weeks.

The DCE said ten boreholes and six school toilets had been completed and that the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) had also approved the drilling of six additional boreholes and six school toilets for 2006.

Mr Yiadom said under the Small-Town Water Project, the Abaam water project had been awarded on contract for which work had already begun while feasibility studies had been concluded for similar projects for Kwae, Anweam, Apinamang and Dwenase under the small town water project. He announced that the church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints had agreed to assist rehabilitate and refurbish all broken-down hand-pumps in the district and actual work would begin oon. Touching on the Assembly's internally-generated revenue, the DCE said as at June 30, 635.250 million cedis had been collected while it had spent 606 million cedis.

The Presiding Member, Mr George Aboagye, commended the government for the fee-free basic education policy, the on-going cocoa spraying exercise and said the computerized system of selecting students to Senior Secondary Schools needed to be sustained and improved. He said as much as the Assembly appreciated the road infrastructure development in the district, attention should also be given to the tarring of the of roads from Abodom - Pramkese-Akyem Takyimang to join the one from Kwabeng in the Atiwa district and also the one from Boadua through Topremang-Dwenase-Akyem Takyimang.
