5 escape death in robbery attack

Five persons have reportedly sustained severe gunshots injuries in a failed armed robbery attack at Wulugu in the Walewale district of the Northern region.

According to the Assembly member for the Wulugu electoral area, Madam Meimunatu Sandoo, the incident happened Monday at about 8pm when the armed robbers attacked Mobile Money Transfer vendors.

Madam Meimunatu told Starr News the gunmen came to the area on a motorbike and ordered the vendors to surrender the proceeds of their sales, but the vendors told the robbers they had no monies on them.

The suspected robbers got angry by the response and started firing sporadically and also attempted to stab one of the vendors with a knife.

Five persons identified by the Assembly member as Isaac, Sakina, Safia, Lydia Baba and Faustina were said to have received gunshots wounds and are currently being treated at the Walewale District Hospital.

The Walewale district police commander, DSP Sarpong Bempah, who confirmed the incident to Starr News said no arrest has been made yet. He further explained that, the suspected robbers after failing to rob the vendors disappointedly fired randomly and fled.

According to DSP Sarpong, a motorbike suspected to be for the robbers was handed over to the police by some residents and investigations are ongoing.
