A devastating incident has shaken the community of Assin Bediadua in the Assin North District of the Central Region, as an unidentified mother aborted a baby boy, estimated to be 7 months old, and dumped him in a public pit latrine.

Honourable Martin Addo, the Assembly member of the area, told Kasapa News' Yaw Boagyan that he received a distress call from concerned citizens around 11:00 p.m. on July 12, 2024, who heard the baby’s cry emanating from the women’s public toilet.

He swiftly alerted the authorities and mobilized a rescue team, but unfortunately, the baby had succumbed before it was removed.

He explained that they found blood-stained baby diapers near the scene, suggesting the baby was born elsewhere and dumped in the latrine.

A team of police officers, led by ASP Isaac Amekudzi, the second-in-command of the Assin North District Police, visited the scene as part of the investigation into the heartbreaking incident after they received the information.

They therefore gave the green light for the baby to be buried due to its decomposed state, while the investigation to arrest the perpetrator continues.

No arrests have been made as of the time of filing this report.

The community is left in shock and mourning the loss of the innocent child.
