An eight-year-old boy drowned while swimming with his two siblings in River Adjei at Nurses Quarters in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
Reporting the incident on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Oheneba Ademah a reporter, disclosed that the boy had gone to the riverside with his two elder brothers on Sunday.
However, during their swim, the boy tragically drowned.
The two brothers left the river and returned home without informing anyone of the incident. When questioned about their brother's whereabouts, they claimed to be unaware of his location.
A search party was organized, but the boy was not found. Later, a neighbor informed the parents that he had seen the boy and his brothers heading to the river.
Eventually, the brothers confessed that their sibling had drowned while they were swimming, but fear had prevented them from reporting it.
The body of the deceased was discovered on Monday, May 20, floating in the river. It has since been recovered and taken to the mortuary.
In response to this tragedy, residents have requested that traditional authorities perform rites to avert similar incidents in the future, noting that this was not the first time a child had lost their life in the river.
