The Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has conferred on the Accra Brewery Limited (ABL) the Honorary Companion of Press Freedom Award for its commendable support to the practice of journalism in Ghana.
ABL has for the past eight years sponsored the Best Reporter in the Arts and Entertainment category of the GJA awards.
Speaking at the presentation of GH? 20,000.00 cheque, as well as 155 cases of ABL brands, valued at GH?4,000.00 in support of the 20th GJA awards ceremony in August, the GJA President, Mr Affail Monney said the gesture was an indication of the company’s commitment to ensure highest journalistic standards.
He said ABL has been a strategic friend and has been exceptional over the years.
The presentation is an additional to its annual cash and product donations in support of the World Press Freedom day celebration.
Ms Adjoba Kyiamah, Corporate and Legal Affairs Director of the ABL, commended journalists for their hard work, and noted that, “we have supported this award consistently for eight years because we identify with the concept of appreciating excellence and hard work.”
“As a subsidiary of SABMiller plc, the world’s largest brewer, our brand values of transparency and accountability strongly resonate with the practice of journalism. This explains our consistent support to an award scheme that ensures excellence in the field” she said.
As a community-oriented and socially responsible company, ABL will continue to support organisations, which commit to social and economic development in their value chain and beyond, she said.
