Anglo Gold Ashanti (AGA) Basic School at Obuasi, has launched its 50th anniversary celebration with the commitment of the company to ensure that new strategies are adopted to position the school as best basic institution in the Country.
The Vice President of the company in Ghana, in-charge of Sustainability who made the commitment said ,“We will ensure that the school is strategically positioned to take advantage of the new opportunities and changes of out time”.
The Vice President expressed gratitude to the Managing Director of AGA, Mr. Kwesi Enyan for his efforts at developing the school into world-class basic institution.
Mr. Joseph K. Onyinah, the Ashanti Regional Director of Education who was the guest speaker observed that, quality education delivery for academic excellence was multi-dimensional which needed the collaboration of all stakeholders.
Speaking on the theme, "Beyond Mining: 50 years of building academic excellence and Human Resource for national Development “, Mr. Onyinah commended the school for being one of the best educational institutions in the Obuasi municipality and beyond.
“The Anglo Gold Ashanti school has over the years been at the forefront in entrenching strong moral foundation and training of emotionally balanced citizens who are socially, physically, spiritually active”, he said.
Launching the anniversary, Mr. John Alexander Ackon, the Obuasi Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), said the 50 years of the school had been exciting and urged the authorities to sell the image of the school outside.
“We should do more to sell the image of the school beyond this municipality”, he noted.
The MCE expressed satisfaction with the deep involvement of the top management of the company in the affairs of the school.
Mr. Kwesi Enyan, Managing Director of AGA, Obuasi mine, observed that, if the school should travel another 50 years, then all the stakeholders of the school should critically “look at new ways of running and managing the school”.**
