Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), a non-governmental organization (NGO), on Monday said it would organise a national consultative forum to deliberate on Ghana’s agricultural strategic development to help achieve food security, on May 24.
The consultative forum on the theme: “Africa’s Agriculture Green Revolution – Is Ghana on Track?,” seek to deliberate on how to effectively operationalize African Green Revolution in Ghana, AGRA said in a statement to the Ghana News Agency in Accra.
According to AGRA, the forum would offer policy makers and industrial stakeholders a platform to dialogue on Ghana’s agricultural strategic objectives, and identify key milestones towards achieving a green revolution in Ghana.
The statement said there would also be dialogue sessions on opportunities and linkages needed to achieve the Ghana Agricultural Strategy Objectives and the African Green Revolution, as well as Breadbasket Strategy and Approach in Ghana in the Green Revolution.
It said that the forum would also provide the opportunity for stakeholders to find ways to support smallholder farmers to eliminate poverty in the country.
Activities for the forum include preliminary sessions where discussions would focus on the roles and responsibilities of Government, private sector, donor partners and AGRA, towards ensuring a food sufficient country.
Discussions on the organisation’s focus on investment and how various grantees could benefit from the funds available, in addition to an exhibition for grantees to showcase their achievements.
The consultative forum forms part of activities marking AGRA’s five years anniversary celebrations.
The NGO works to achieve a food secure and prosperous Africa through the promotion of rapid, sustainable agricultural growth, based on smallholder farmers.
AGRA aims to ensure that smallholders have what they need to succeed: good seeds and healthy soils; access to markets, information, financing, storage and transport; and policies that provide them with comprehensive support.
Through developing Africa's high-potential breadbasket areas, while also boosting farm productivity across more challenging environments. AGRA works to transform smallholder agriculture into a highly productive, efficient, sustainable and competitive system, while protecting the environment.
According to the statement, Mrs Jane Karuku, President of AGRA, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to eradicating poverty among small-scale farmers and their families in Ghana and Africa.**
