AMA supports families of flood and fire victims

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has donated cash amounts of between GH? 10,000 and GH? 20,000 to bereaved families, who lost their relations during the flood and fire disaster on June 3, this year.

The donation forms part of Government’s support to the families to enable them to organize a befitting funeral and burial for their lost ones.

The flood and fire tragedy occurred at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra.

Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuye, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive, together with Nii Djangba Vanderpuiye, Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, made the donation to the bereaved families on Saturday in Accra.

Dr Vanderpuije gave the assurance that the AMA would build a memorial park as a testimony, so that; “this will never happen anymore” and urged the people to learn a lesson from what happened.

He expressed gratitude to the families for responding to their call to receive the monies, adding that; “let us bear in mind that all of us must be collectively responsible to prevent such occurrence.

“The good Lord in His own wisdom will comfort you. This could happen to anyone ,” he said, and expressed condolences on behalf of the government to the families.

He said the compensation was not to replace the lives lost but to take the burden off the families and called on the people living in the city to be more responsible about environmental sanitation.

Mr Francis Yarteyquaye Cudjoe, leader of the delegation and a family member of one of the victims expressed gratitude to the Accra Mayor, the government and the Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister for the kind gesture.
