Abodom citizens appeal for Teachers in technical subjects

Agona Swedru, July 6, GNA - The Concern Citizens Association of Agona Abodom, a development-oriented organisation has appealed to the Ghana Education Service (GES) to post technical and vocational teachers to the area.

This would prevent the Roman Catholic Secretariat from transferring tools and computers it provided to another town, which was ready to use them to avoid waste.

Pastor Light Asomaning, Asemblyman for Abodom South, stated this when he addressed a meeting of the Association at Agona Swedru to discuss the provision of education infrastructure at Abodom. According to the Assemblyman there was no technical skills teacher for pupils to make use of the tools.

He expressed concern about the encroachment of school lands at Abodom, which would affect future development projects and stressed the need for a proper a new layout to ensure orderly development. Mr John Obeng, Chairman, said the Association had instituted an 850 million-cedi educational fund and a committee to support needy but brilliant. He said Association would raise about 150 million cedis this year through voluntary contributions and funds raising activities. Mr Obeng expressed concern about the standard of education at Abodom and called for concerted efforts to reverse the trend. He appealed to the citizens from the area living outside the town to contribute towards education, sanitation, health and other social development. They should also educate the people especially the youth about the dangers of HIV/AIDS pandemic and the need to avoid teenage pregnancies. 06 July 05
