Mampong (Ash), July 20, GNA - The Abontem M/A Primary School in the Asante-Mampong Municipality has appealed for more classrooms and furniture for smooth academic work.
Mr Ofori Atta Sarpong, the head teacher, said due to the lack of classroom space, they are forced to hold classes under trees.
About 468 children out of the total pupils' population of 758 do not also have tables and chairs to sit on, a situation, the head teacher noted, was unhelpful for effective teaching and learning.
He was speaking at a durbar to mark the maiden pre-school celebration in the municipality at Abontem.
Mr Sarpong said it was worrying that several petitions sent to the Municipal Education Directorate and the assembly to address the problems had not received any attention.
He said since education was a right that should be enjoyed by every Ghanaian child it was important the political leadership and the education authorities ensured that suitable conditions were created for children in the area to have access to quality education.
Ms Agnes Nanor, the Municipal Girl Child Education Coordinator, pledged to draw attention to the plight of the school at the appropriate forum.
As part of the celebration, schools in the municipality undertook clean up exercises.
The Municipal Director of Education, Mr Frank Yaw Musah, in a message reminded parents that education was a shared responsibility and therefore they should accept to play their part well by providing children with their basic needs.
