Abuakwa North MP presents sewing machines to community

Bosodumase (E/R), June 9, GNA- Mr Joseph B. Dankwa-Adu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, on Monday presented 10 sewing machines to the people of Bosodumase, near Bososu for the establishment of a sewing school for the community. The items, which were estimated at 721 Ghana cedis, were aimed at helping to provide alternate livelihood to young women in the community. Presenting the items, Mr Dankwa-Adu said the aim of supporting the community to establish the community sewing school was to help reduce the cost that parents in the community had to bear by sending their young ladies who had completed basic schools to stay in the urban communities and other demands that they had to bear for their wards to acquire skills in dressmaking. He said within the last four years, he had supported the community with a place of convenience at a cost of 20,000 Ghana Cedis and also helped the community to benefit from the community water scheme adding that with electricity already available in the area, what was left was to support the town with projects and programmes that would help the youth to get engaged in alternative livelihood schemes. Mr. Dankwa-Adu charged young women of the community to be serious with the project to ensure that they fully benefited from it. He gave the assurance that he would be visiting the community to monitor the progress of the project and if it was progressing well, he would provide other forms of support for it. He promised to support seamstresses and tailors in the community who would volunteer to teach at the school. Mr. Douglas Martin Asare, New Patriotic Party (NPP) constituency chairman for Abuakwa North, advised the community to provide good security for the sewing machines so that, nobody could come and steal them. The NPP Party elder of the community, Opanin Kofi Adjei, who received the items on behalf of the community, gave the assurance that, the items would be put to good use. 09 June 08
