The parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Zebilla Constituency of the Upper East Region, John Kingsley Kurugu, has commissioned 85 boreholes for use by residents in the constituency.

The initiative by John Kingsley Kurugu who doubles as the acting Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), forms part of his commitment to addressing the water problem affecting residents.

The 85 boreholes in communities such as Ziboko, Sabeogo, Mopkale, Dagunga, Gbang, Gundaado, Apordadogo Number 2, and many other communities are expected to serve thousands of households and reduce the burden on women and children who often have to travel long distances to fetch water.

Speaking at the commissioning, John Kingsley Kurugu underscored the importance of access to clean water in the daily lives of the people by stressing how reliable sources of potable water are essential for health, sanitation, and overall development of the community.

"Access to clean water is not just a basic need but a fundamental right. These boreholes will therefore significantly enhance the quality of life for you and ensure that you have reliable access to safe drinking water," Dr. John Kingsley Kurugu stated.

He assured the residents that the project is part of his broader commitment to improving essential services and infrastructure for them and highlighted his dedication to infrastructural development in underserved communities in the Zebilla constituency.

Some of the residents in the beneficiary communities who hitherto had struggled to have access to potable water and had to walk several kilometres to fetch water commended Dr. John Kingsley Kurugu for the construction of the boreholes.

"We are grateful to Dr. Kurugu for this initiative. We have been relieved of the stress of walking kilometers to carry water home. God bless him," Awinma Atiig, a resident at Dagunga revealed.

Akudpoka Mokpal expressed her gratitude to John Kingsley Kurugu because successive governments have over the years neglected them.

“We have been marginalized in this community. Government upon government has neglected us for far too long. We are happy that someone has seen our plight and is here to rescue us. We are grateful to Dr. John Kingsley Kurugu, God bless him”, she added.
