ActionAid to extend activities in Volta Region

Action-Aid Ghana, a human rights advocacy NGO, is planning to extend its activities in the Volta Region to Ho-West, Adaklu and South-Dayi districts.

As part of preliminary works, a team from the NGO is collating data on development issues from relevant institutions in the region.

ActionAid had been in the Kadjebi District since 2002, working in the areas of education with a slant towards the girl-child and women’s rights.

The team met officers of the Development and Planning Division of the Regional Coordinating Council

The team also met journalists working with Ghana News Agency for the media perspectives on development in the region, and discussed a number of issues, with the focus on rights-based subjects.

Alhassan Suleman, a Project Manager, who led the ActionAid team, said the NGO is working in areas of girl-child education, economic empowerment of rural folks, especially women, child rights and conflict resolution.

ActionAid Ghana is an affiliate of ActionAid International, which operates in more than 45 countries worldwide pursuing “a world without poverty in which every person enjoys the right to a life of dignity”.
