Salaga (N/R), Feb. 2, GNA - An acute water shortage has hit Salaga Secondary School in the East Gonja District, disrupting teaching and learning.
Students spend several studies hours in search of water, Mr Issah Yahaya, Headmaster of the School told the GNA at Salaga on Wednesday. He appealed to the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports to provide the school with a water tanker as an interim measure while steps are taken to drill boreholes to address the water problem facing the school.
The Headmaster said the School had been selected for upgrading under the second phase of the government's model school programme, but lamented the lack of infrastructure, especially accommodation for both students and teachers.
He expressed the fear that with the increasing student population, overcrowding in the dormitories could be worse next year when the Senior High School programme takes off.
Mr Yahaya bemoaned the poor electrical wiring system in the school, saying it was creating power fluctuation and appealed to the government to provide money from the GETfund for rewiring.
He said the school's only two vehicles were too old and needed replacement to facilitate the movement of students, teachers and the administrative staff.
