Adansi North communities to get 32 new boreholes

Fomena (Ash), Oct. 19, GNA - Thirty-two boreholes are to be constructed in a number of communities in the Adansi North District of Ashanti at an estimated cost of nearly two billion cedis. Among the communities to benefit from the boreholes to be undertaken under the Community-Based Rural Development Project (CBRDP) are Patakro, Kwapia, Kyekyewere, Abedwum and Old Ayaase. Others are Adokwai, Agogooso, Old Edubiase, Bobriase, Dompoase and Fomena. Mr Peter Kwabena Ameyaw, the District Chief Executive, announced this during an address to the Assembly at Fomena.

He said the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) with assistance from the German and Ghana Governments was to construct 50 boreholes in the District under the rural water supply programme. Mr Ameyaw said under the facility, the CWSA would provide potable water and improve sanitation facilities in rural communities in 15 districts in the Ashanti Region between this year and 2009. Again, under the phase two of the Small Town Water Supply and Sanitation Project, water supply to the Fumso community would be improved through the laying of pipes and the erection of standpipes. Mr Ameyaw said tender documents for the project had been opened as the evaluation had been completed and that the report had been referred to the Regional Tender Review Board for concurrent award of contract. The DCE added that bidding documents for the erection of 32 standpipes and the construction of an overhead tank at Dompoase had been opened.

He commended the Member of Parliament (MP) for Fomena, Mr Akwasi Afrifa for his initiative, which had brought the improvement of water system at Dompoase to reality.
