Adanwomase gets computer for tourism project

Adanwomase, (Ash), Nov. 17, GNA - The people of Adanwomase in the Kwabre District of Ashanti were on Wednesday presented with a computer and a printer worth 2.5 million cedis to support their tourism development project on kente in the town.

Madam Ruth Cotton, an educationist from Chicago in the United States, who donated the computer, said she got the money from the sale of Kente clothes she bought from the town during a visit to the area in March this year and sold in America.

The donor, who is the mother of an American Peace Corps volunteer in the town, hoped that the facility would be used to facilitate the documentation of all aspect of tourism project.

Nana Appiah Kubi II, Adanwomase Krontihene, who received the gift expressed his gratitude to the donor and asked the citizens to get actively involved in the project to the benefit of the community. "We should not be discouraged by all odds, we must all girdle our loins and work together to enhance the hopes and aspirations of the town for the present generation and those unborn", he said.

Mr Anthony Cotton, the volunteer in charge of the project thanked the chiefs and the general public for their support and cooperation in fulfillment of his work and hoped they would continue to offer him the needed assistance to ensure the success of the project.

Mr Justice Kwaku Boakye, chairman of the Adanwomase Tourism Management Committee, said the volunteer has done a lot in promoting the project in many parts of the USA.

He said he had contributed immensely to the erection of signpost at vantage points in Ashanti Region in advertising the project and had also helped to complete and furnish visitors lounge for tourists in the town. Mr Boakye indicated that with the support of Mr Cotton, four thousand library books worth 50 million cedis had been stocked in the schools library in the town and had also supported environmental and sanitation programmes in the town.

The community presented citations to the volunteer and his mother as their appreciation towards their efforts to enhance the project in the town.
