The Afigya-Kwabre District Assembly on Monday made available cash of GH¢ 34,018.00 in support of 55 physically challenged persons in the area.
The beneficiaries received between GH¢ 500.00 and GH¢ 1,500.00.
This brings to GH¢ 210,930.18 the total amount the assembly had so far disbursed to people with disabilities (PWDs), this year.
In all, 418 individuals have benefitted - by way of payment for their education, setting them up in business and supply of walking and other devices.
Mr. Kwaku Oppong-Kyekyeku Kaakyire, the District Chief Executive (DCE), handing over the cash to beneficiaries at a ceremony at Kodie said this was in keeping with the requirement that two per cent of the assembly’s share of the Common Fund was given to the PWDs.
This, he noted, was tremendously helping to transform the socio-economic situation of such people.
Many have become economically empowered, with children who would have ended up on the streets and traffic intersections, begging for money, now enrolled in schools.
Mr. Oppong-Kyekyeku advised that parents with disabled children and other PWDs to took advantage of the opportunity to make things better for them.
