Afreseni, (Ash), Jan. 4, GNA - The chiefs and people of Afreseni, a farming community near Mankranso in the Ahafo Ano South District, realized 650 Ghana cedis in a fund raising harvest organised in aid of development projects in the community.
The amount was generated from the sale of foodstuffs and levies of 3 Ghana cedis per male and 2 Ghana cedis per female. Among the projects targeted is the construction of a sanitary facility at a cost of 25,000 Ghana cedis.
Nana Osei Bonsu, chief of the town, said even though they had not received any assistance from the government yet, the community had taken it upon itself to initiate its own projects. He said the people believed that they could only be helped if they helped themselves and that the people were determined to complete the project and begin teachers' accommodation project.
Nana Bonsu appealed to the people to pay their levies promptly and called on NGOs and other organizations to assist them. Mr Kirk Ntiamoah, Assemblyman for the area, said the community would soon be provided with a junior high school to reduce the burden of school children who had to travel long distances from Kwasi Marfo, Camp, Dagyanso, Kramokrom, Beweahaban and other communities in the area to Kunsu to attend school.
