Agona Assembly presents surgical equipment to Swedru Gov't Hosp.

The Agona West Municipal Assembly has presented surgical items to the Cholera Response Task Force, to help fight the outbreak of the disease.

The items included 50 surgical gloves, 500 pairs of disposable gloves, 750 pieces of surgical disposable face mask and 2,000 capsules of doxycycline.

Mr. Samuel Oppong, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) said the presentation was to motivate members of the task force to respond to the cholera cases and other sicknesses that may be reported to the health facility.

He said the Assembly deemed it fit to offer the necessary logistics support to the health personnel to enhance health care within the Municipality.

The MCE hinted that the Assembly was constructing bungalows for the Medical Assistant at Bobikuma Health Centre.

According to Mr. Oppong, designs of the building have been completed by the Works Department of the Assembly, for construction works to begin.

Mr. Oppong said the government under President John Dramani Mahama was doing everything possible to ensure quality health care delivery for the citizenry.

Mr. George Freeman, Agona West Municipal Environmental Health and Sanitation Officer, said the formation of the five- inter-sectoral committee has helped to reduce the outbreak of cholera and other diseases.

The Committee comprises Environmental Health, Zoomlion, Ghana Health Service, Information Service Department and NADMO.

He said the environmental health and sanitation office has intensified education on the enforcement of laws for the provision of household toilets in every new structure, to reduce pressure on public ones, as well as the indiscriminate throwing of human excreta.
