Agona Assembly to pay all school fees

The Agona District Assembly has approved fee-free schooling this academic year for all pupils in public schools between the stages of Primary Class One and the third year of Junior Secondary School (JSS3).

This is because of the inability of many parents in the District to pay the ?13,000 annual school fee approved by the Ghana Education Service (GES).

According to the paper, a survey conducted by the Assembly had revealed that just 36,000 out of 80,000 children of school-going age were actually in school.

Mr. John Kwesi Agyabeng, District Chief Executive for Agona, revealed this at the climax of the Annual Akwambo Festival of the chiefs and people of Agona Asafo.

He said the Assembly had agreed to use part of its share of the District Assemblies? Common Fund to fund the Scheme to ensure that every child of school-going age was enrolled.
