Mankranso (Ash), April 6, GNA - About 18 communities in the Ahafo-Ano South district of Ashanti are to be connected to the national electricity grid under the rural electrification programme. Some of the communities are Pokukrom, Potrikrom, Asuadei, Wioso, Bienso Number Two, Hwiiba and Domeabra.
Mr Stephen Balado Manu, Member of Parliament for Ahafo-Ano South, disclosed this at the People's Assembly at Mankranso on Wednesday. Answering a question put by Nana Anim Ababio II, chief of Wioso who wanted to know what was happening to the electrification programme, the MP said he had proposed that his share of the common fund be set aside to support the labour component of the project which was expected to be provided by the communities to ensure the speedy completion of the project.
To another que stion about when the Mankranso Secondary/Technical School would be upgraded into a model school, Mr Balado Manu said it would be included in the next batch of secondary school to be upgraded. In the meantime, he said, the school had already been provided with a dormitory block while a dining hall and kitchen were being provided as part of the upgrading process.
Mr Kwabena Peprah, assemblyman for Biemso Number One, called for the rehabilitation of the Adugyama-Fufuo-Barekese road to help reduce the traffic congestion at Kwadaso on the Kumasi-Sunyani road. Nana Tabiri Gyansah III, Omanhene of Mpasaso traditional area, appealed to government officials to hold periodic meetings with the communities to explain government policies and programmes to them for the rural people to see the good work government was doing.
