Akim Swedru Secondary School to be upgraded

Akim Swedru, April 14, GNA - The Government has voted 500 million cedis for the expansion of the girl's dormitory of the Akim Swedru Secondary School (AKISSS), as part of rehabilitation work to upgrade it into a model educational institution

The government would also present the school with a 30-seater bus, purchased with funds from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund). This was contained in a speech read on behalf of Mr Felix Owusu-Agyepong, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, at the inauguration of the Old students association of AKISSS on Wednesday.

Mr Owusu-Agyepong, who is also the Member of Parliament for Akim swedru, urged the association to collaborate with teachers of the school to improve on academic standards.

In a speech read for the Minister of Education and Sports, Mr Yaw Osafo Marfo, he said that the Ministry would ensure that all the school projects under construction were completed on scheduled to facilitate teaching and learning.

He commended the old boys for forming the association to enable them to contribute their quota towards upgrading facilities in the school among other objectives.

The chairman of the association, Mr Kwame Bosompem announced that the group had so far spent over 100 million cedis to construct a wall around the girls' dormitory and to renovate the school's assembly hall. He asked the students to be disciplined and study hard to enable them to pass their examinations, to justify the huge amount being spent on their education by their parents and government.
