The Akropong School for the Blind will is set to benefit from a sponsorship package of Five Hundred and Sixty Six Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc566, 000) over the next three years. The sponsorship package which is being made possible by the MTN Ghana Foundation will seek to among other things; improve upon the infrastructure base of the school.
Addressing the media on the package, the Acting corporate Services Executive, Mrs Georgina Asare Fiabgenu mentioned that the MTN Ghana Foundation as part of its objectives to improve upon Education and Health in the country will establish a fully functional Computer Laboratory at the cost of One Hundred and Thirty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc130, 000) in the first year of implementation.
She added that the MTN Ghana Foundation will put a 16 room, one storey dormitory for the male students as part of activities for the second year of implementation at the cost of Three Hundred and Sixty Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc360, 000) scheduled for the year 2012.
Mrs. Georgina Asare Fiagbenu further mentioned that the Foundation will secure Thirty - Three seater Coaster Bus, also at the cost of Twenty Six Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc26, 000). She said MTN will continue to support institutions in an effort of improving upon their lot as well as building stronger relationships with the entire Ghanaian society.
The headmistress of Akropong School for the Blind, Mrs. Mahela Narh expressed gratitude over the gesture and gave assurance that the package will help improve upon the academic standards of students and also strengthen the infrastructural base of the school.
The GHc566, 000 sponsorship package for the next three years, from the MTN Ghana Foundation is currently the largest corporate contribution made to the school since its establishment.
