Akropong (E/R), June 5, GNA - Mr George Opare Addo, District Chief Executive for Akuapem North, says his priority will be on the development of tourism potential in the area. Speaking to the GNA at Akropong, Mr Opare Addo said tourism was one of the best components of reducing unemployment in the district. He said the youth would be trained as artisans and other tourism related fields and that tourist attractions in the district include the Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm, the Akonedi Shrine at Larteh and six waterfalls. Mr Opare said he would solicit for funds from non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders in the tourism industry to develop tourism in the district.
On revenue, he said he would put in the necessary measures to help the assembly to improve upon its internal generated revenue so as not to rely too much on the Common Fund for development. The assembly would institute a revenue task force which will enforce the payment of rent and other taxes. Mr Opare Addo appealed to the assembly members to support him to move the development agenda of the district forward. 05 June 09
