Akufo-Addo to cut sod for reconstruction of deplorable Nkroful road

Residents in the Ellembelle District in the Western Region will soon have a sigh of relief as President Akufo Addo gears up for a sod-cutting ceremony for the reconstruction of the eight-kilometre Esiama-Nkroful-Teleku Bokazo road in July.

The move follows the deplorable nature of the road which was having a telling effect on the movement of goods and services thereby crippling the local economy.

The District Chief Executive of Ellembelle Mr. Kwasi Bonzoh disclosed this to newsmen at Ampain in the Western Region.

He noted with concern that the road has been in a terrible state for many years despite promises by the previous government to fix it.

Mr. Bonzoh disclosed that the family of the first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and other users of the road have on many occasions pleaded for some elevation of the stretch, considering that the area attracts tourists.

The DCE said 'the erstwhile NDC government responded to the calls but could only attempt uncompleted works on the drainage system. But the contractor after the 2016 general elections left the site for unknown reasons."

Speaking to the local media at Ampain, Mr Bonzoh revealed that his administration has secured funding for the stretch from the Ghana National Petroleum Cooperation (GNPC) and the Ghana National Gas Company.

The DCE disclosed that the Mahama-led-government started the partial reconstruction of the stretch and didn't pay a penny to the Chinese contractor before exiting power.

He said the project which will be in three phases, will extend from Teleku-Bokazo to Aiyinasi estimated within the coverage of 28-kilometres.

Mr. Bonzoh recalled that before this promise, there have been several promises by this NPP government to reconstruct the stretch but this time around the DCE is optimistic about his current promise.

"We are not going to do partial reconstruction as the NDC government started but we are going to do aspalt and we are doing it to glorify Dr. Kwame Nkrumah", he said.

He said the project is going to create direct and indirect jobs for the youth of the area.

The DCE, therefore, seized the opportunity to call on the good people of Ellembelle and Nzema as a whole to rally behind President Akufo-Addo to develop the area.
