Akwatiahene appeals for the rehabilitation of roads

The Akwatiahene, Osabarima Kofi Boateng the III, has appealed to the Government to give urgent attention to the rehabilitation of Akwatia town roads, which are in very deplorable condition.

He said the potholes on the roads are gradually developing into manholes.

Osabarima Kofi Boateng was speaking at a durbar at his palace to discuss issues affecting Akwatia and how the people could be actively involved in the town’s development.

The Akwatiahene said, if immediate attention is not given to the roads, most of them would become unmotorable after the coming rainy season.

He said though, the Member of Parliament, Alhaji Baba Jamal and the Denkyembour District Chief Executive, Mr Kwaku Ofori Abrakwaa said three years ago that the roads have been awarded on contract for rehabilitation, yet there is no sign to prove that.

The Akwatiahene also called for the rehabilitation of the Bodua to Akwatia road, which has also deteriorated.

He called on his people to tolerate one another’s views especially in this election year, stressing: “Let’s do our politics in peace devoid of any form of violence.”

He recalled the violence that characterised some previous elections that earned Akwatia a bad name, making it one of the flash points that needed serious security attention.

Osabarima asked all political parties to ensure that their members and supporters refrain from acts that would spark violence, adding: “Lets open a new chapter in our political history.”

He expressed concern about the waning of the communal spirit among the people and said the time has come for the re-kindling of the enthusiasm.

He said communal labour could improve environmental sanitation, which would in turn promote the health of the people.
