Akyem Takyimang embarks on 1.6 billion- cedi development projects

Akyem Takyimang (E/R), Feb 28, GNA- The people of Akyem Takyimang in the Kwaebibirem District of the Eastern Region, have undertaken communal labour lasting about nine hours to accelerate works on a 1.6 billion- cedi community project.

The project involves the construction of a three-story building, which would serve as a reservoir for 10,000-litres of water to be supplied to the town and stores.

Barima Appiah Danso II, Chief of the town, told the Ghana News Agency that the water project would involve the installation of 60 standing pipes.

He said so far over 200 million had been spent on the project. Barima Danso said the community had contributed about 150 million cedis through a bank loan and special levies. He expressed appreciation to the Member of Parliament for Kade, Mr Ofosu Asamoah for donating a cheque of 12 million cedis towards the project.

The Management of Med Mining Company, a gold mining company had so far donated 55 million cedis for the project. Barima Danso said the town would embark on four 20-seater water cistern system toilet projects at an estimated cost of 150 million cedis.

The chief expressed appreciation for the high level of communal spirit among his people. He appealed to individuals and Non-Governmental organisations to contribute towards the early completion of the projects.
