All is calm at Alavanyo, Nkonya - Police

All is calm in the Alavanyo-Nkonya areas of the Volta Region after two shooting incidents on Saturday, which claimed one life.

Mr Joseph Antwi Gyawu, Hohoe Divisional Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that it was too early to connect the incident to the Alavanyo-Nkonya land dispute.

He said Sylvester Kofi Nyame and Michael Francois Kuagbe, who were injured in the first incident, would help the police to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incidents.

Mr Gyawu said Togbe Atakora Tsedze VII, Paramount Chief of Alavanyo Traditional Area and his Nkonya Traditional Area counterpart, Togbe Okorto Kofi III were collaborating with the police to keep the area calm.

One person was reported dead and two others injured in two shooting incidents on Saturday in the bushes between the Nkonya and Alavanyo communities.

The first incident was said to have happened at around 0530 hours, when Kofi Nyame and two others from Nkonya-Tayi and Nkonya-Ntumda were fired on and injured while returning from a hunting expedition.

The second incident happened at about 1100 hours, five and half hours after the first incident, when Stephen Kudzo Atipoli, 70, who was on his farm with his wife, was shot and killed.

Police investigations into the incident are underway.
