All survived in vessel accident at Tema

Tema, July 06, GNA - All the six persons on board the vessel "TM 15 Victory", belonging to Israel Fisheries Limited, survived an accident involving the fishing vessel that was being repaired at the Tema Boatyard at Tema Harbour on Monday.

One of them, Mr Daniel Nartey, Assistant Engineer who sustained injuries, was treated and discharged from a hospital at Tema.

Captain Israel Amanor, Manager of the Fisheries Company and owner of the vessel, told the GNA on Tuesday that work on the vessel had been completed at the cradle side of the boatyard and was in the process of being shifted to sea for trial when it tilted and fell on the starboard with the Captain's bridge getting detached from the vessel.

Mr Sam Adjei, Manager of the Tema Boats Yard Limited, said while the vessel was being slipped into the sea "the rollers on the cradles got broken, cracked and one edge of the wheel came up, swerved and broke as a result the wedge slipped the vessel and fell on the starboard". He gave the assurance that the vessel would be repaired for use during the next fishing season.

Mr Adjei said the Boats Yard Limited, which was placed on divestiture, was liquidated to the Anyidado Company Limited in 1998 and is in charge of the area including the cradle side.
