Amanfrom Camp Prison receives support

The Amanfrom Camp Prison has taken delivery of three bundles of roofing sheets valued at GH¢600.00 towards the completion of structures being built to provide accommodation space for the inmates.

It was a donation from the Kumasi Chapter of the Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship (FGBMF).

Mr. Kwame Amoh-Darko, Treasurer of the Fellowship, said this was in response to an appeal made to them.

He said as Christians, they have a duty to bring a bit of comfort to the suffering, the needy and the socially disadvantaged.

It was on account of this that the Fellowship has been making regular visits to the prisons, he said.

Mr. Amoh-Darko advised the prisoners to give up on the bad conduct that brought them into conflict with the law and accept to be law-abiding.

Chief Superintendent of Prisons Ben Dwira Ampratwum, the Officer in charge of the Camp, expressed worry about the growing number of young people being thrown into the prisons for crimes.

He blamed the situation on the high level of unemployment among them and said the way forward was to focus on assisting them to acquire employable skills.

He spoke of plans to establish a vocational centre to train the prisoners in various trades and vocations and invited the churches to join in to make the project a reality.**
