Anloga carpenters to relocate to Sokoban Wood Village

Kumasi, Aug 1, GNA - The Anloga Carpenters Union in Kumasi has set August 24 as the deadline to relocate to their new site at the Sokoban Wood Village. This would pave way for work to start on the Anloga-Asokwa bypass road. The relocation of the carpenters is behind schedule due to some misunderstanding between the carpenters and the Resettlement Committee of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) over the allocation of sheds, which they claimed were inadequate to accommodate the numerous carpenters.

The Reverend Samuel K. Fugah, Patron of the Anloga Carpenters Union, told the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi at the weekend that the misunderstanding had now been resolved and that the relocation would start from August 24 to September 29. He said due to this, the Jeo-Model construction and Haulage Firm had been contracted to evacuate carpenters' equipment to the Sokoban Wood Village.

Rev Fugah said the carpenters agreed to relocate as the Resettlement Committee was working around the clock to find additional sheds to augment the 330 which were allocated to them. He indicated that over 4,000 carpenters are to be resettled at the Village and urged the carpenters to co-operate with the Committee to ensure their successful relocation. Rev Fugah disclosed that the carpenters had been occupying their current site at Anloga for the past 60 years and thanked government for constructing a state-of-the-art wood village to enhance their businesses. He appealed to their customers to endeavour to patronize their products and services despite the long distance of the location from the city centre.
