Anloga gets community clinic

The first community clinic under the Community Health Planning Service (CHPS) has been inaugurated to serve the residents of Anloga, a suburb of Kumasi.

The facility, which is the first to be established in the Kumasi Metropolis will provide primary health care to the densely-populated area and peripheral communities to help ease the congestion at the bigger hospitals.

The clinic is being housed in a rented apartment which was renovated by the Kumasi Metropolitan Authority (KMA) at the cost of Gh¢10,000.

Inaugurating the facility, Dr Kwasi Yeboah-Ewudzi, Kumasi Metropolitan Director of Health Service, said the facility would be managed by staff from the Kumasi South Hospital.

Dr Yeboah-Ewudzi called on the people to patronize the facility and cooperate with the health personnel to enable them give off their best.

Madam Faustina Osei-Mensah, Senior Nursing Officer (Public Health) from the Kumasi South Hospitals in a welcome address called on women to embrace family planning service to improve their health status and that of their family.

She urged them to disabuse their minds of certain misconceptions about family planning and said that was the best way for women to space their births and enjoy better family life.

Mr. Kwabla Ablordepke, Assemblyman for Anloga West, commended the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Samuel Sarpong, for his efforts in making the project a reality.

He said the facility had come as a big relieve since they could now access quality healthcare at their doorsteps.

He said plans were far advanced to construct a new clinic for the community within two years.

Alhaji Tabsoba Allhassan, Second Deputy National Co-ordinator in-charge of operations at the National Youth Employment Programme, who chaired the function, said the provision of the facility was part of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ‘Better Ghana Agenda’.

He said there were numerous programmes that had been put in place by the government to enhance the quality of life of the Ghanaians irrespective of where they were coming from or the party they belonged to.

Alhaji Tapsoba pledged to post ten National Youth Employment Personnel there to support the operations of the facility.

He also pledged ten bags of cement towards the construction of permanent hospital in the area which is expected to begin soon.

The Four-member health personnel who would initially manage the facility were introduced to people at the durbar.**
