Anyinasuso (Ash), Dec 12, GNA- Anyinasuso market near Tepa in the Ahafo-Ano North District in Ashanti was on Tuesday inaugurated for the second time in three years following the refusal of the local people to use it after it was first inaugurated in 2004 by Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, the then Ashanti Regional Minister.
The market, which cost several millions of cedis under the Village Infrastructure Project (VIP), was left at the mercy of the weather and snakes, based on a superstition that the site was a meeting place for evil spirits.
It took the courage, fasting and prayers of the local prayer group to make it possible for the market to be inaugurated for use. Speaking at the ceremony, Nana Eric Agyemang Prempeh, District Chief Executive, appealed to the people, especially the market women to make use of the market and stop selling along the road and in front of their houses.
He said the town had benefited from a number of development projects more than any other town in the District during the administration of the present government, and appealed to them to reciprocate these benefits by supporting it.
He assured the people that the District Security Council (DISEC) has taken certain measures to check the recent two highway armed robbery cases on the Tepa-Mankranso road and appealed to the people to co-operate with the police by reporting any suspicious character in the community to either the unit committee members or the police. Nana Kwaku Duah, chief of Anyinasuso, praised the government for providing the town with classroom blocks, a health centre, nurses quarters and tarring the Tepa-Mankranso road.
He appealed to the government to convert the abandoned classroom blocks and dormitories of the former Integrated Community Centre for Employable Skills (ICCES) into a health-training institute for health workers. 12 Dec. 07
