Asante-Akim North rewards 23 farmers

The Asante-North District Assembly has rewarded 23 farmers for distinguished performance and significant contribution to the growth of the area’s agriculture.

They were presented with prizes including knapsack spraying machines, machetes, wellington boots and certificates.

Mr. Edward Asadu, who was adjudged the overall best district farmer for the year, took home a tricycle, knapsack sprayer, agro-chemicals, a pair of wellington boots and machete.

The presentation was at a farmers’ day celebration held at Juansa under the theme “Eat what you grow”.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Daniel Osei, pledged the assembly’s determination to support them with farming inputs and appropriate technology to boost crop yield and returns.

Already about 170 rice growers in a number of communities including Worapong, Bebome, Juansa and Ananekrom have been assisted through training and inputs supply to expand their activities.

He said their goal is to make farming attractive, particularly to the youth and aid efforts at achieving food security.

Mr Stephen Amankwaah, the District Director of Agriculture, encouraged the farmers to adopt improved farming practices for increased production.

The Omanhene of Juansa, Nana Agyemang Tia-Toah, saluted the farmers for hard work and said they deserved commendation.
