Juaso (Ash), June 3, GNA- A cross-section of the public in the Asante Akim South District were on Monday offered a platform to ask government officials questions on pertinent issues affecting their livelihood at a people's assembly held at Juaso. The forum, which afforded the people the opportunity to interact with policy makers at the local level in an effort to strengthen the local government system, was attended by residents across the district. Mr Abdul Karim Boakye-Yiadom, District Chief Executive (DCE) together with some heads of departments and the Regional Co-ordinating Director, Mr Ernest Yaw Kwarteng, took turns to answer questions from the public.
Dominant among the questions were poor roads, lack of electricity in most communities, unemployment among the youth as well as security. The DCE, who responded to some of the questions, said the assembly had taken note of the people's concern and assured them of the assembly's commitment to address them accordingly. He said the exercise demonstrated government's commitment towards improving the lives of the people and called for their active involvement in the decentralization process, by furnishing the assembly with the challenges affecting them.
Mr Boakye-Yiadom said as part of efforts to improve security in the district, a new police headquarters was under construction, adding that, a fire station would also be opened at Juaso soon. On health, the DCE said the assembly was collaborating with the District Health Management Team (DHMT) to train six medical Assistant for the health centres of the various sub districts. Mr Ernest Yaw Kwarteng, Regional Co-ordinating Director entreated the people to team up with the assembly in its effort to bring development to their door step.
He urged them to exercise restraint as the assembly strived to execute projects, saying that, development was a gradual process.
