Asante-Akim South requires 97 additional teachers

Juaso (Ash), Sept. 22, GNA 96 About 97 additional teachers will be needed to fill various vacancies in the Asante-Akim South district this academic year following an increase in enrolment.

Also required to augment existing infrastructure are 62 classrooms as well as 1,140 pieces of furniture.

These came to light when the District Director of Education, Mr Fabian Belieb joined some basic schools in the district to mark 93My First Day in School=94 celebration on Tuesday.

The pupils who turned up in their numbers beyond expectation were given biscuits and caps as incentive to encourage them to be punctual in school and also welcome newly enrolled pupils.

Mr Belieb, who expressed satisfaction about attendance in the various schools, urged teachers to create an enabling environment for pupils to ensure attendance would be maintained throughout the term. He admonished teachers to eschew absenteeism and lead exemplary lives worthy of emulation by the pupils, adding that his office would not condone any negative tendency on the part of teachers. The director also exhorted pupils to avail themselves to the numerous educational reforms introduced by government in order to become responsible citizens in future.
