Asantehene lauds UNDP’s support for good governance

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has praised the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for promoting good governance and fighting poverty in the country.

He said there was every reason to be appreciative of the good job it was doing to help improve the socio-economic situation of the people.

The Asantehene noted that the UNDP’s interventions were directly and indirectly having a positive impact on the people and said these should be sustained.

He was hosting a delegation from the world body at his Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Friday.

Led by Ms Ruby Sandhu Rojon, the United Nation’s (UN) Resident Coordinator, who also doubles as the UNDP Resident Representative, they were in Kumasi for their annual retreat to take stock of their activities and plan the way forward.

The three days meeting was attended by about 50 local and international staffs.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu pledged closer cooperation with the programme to improve the quality of life of the people.

Ms Rojon thanked the Asantehene for the warm reception and underlined their commitment to remain a reliable development partner of the nation.

They have been focusing in the areas of communication, rural credit, good governance, peace and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
