Ashaiman Police arrest hooligans taking over toilets

The Ashaiman Police Command on Thursday arrested five persons who forcibly took over newly constructed public toilets within the municipality.

The arrest followed complaints that the group, including others now at large, had previously taken over some newly constructed public toilets, which were duly awarded on contract by the municipal assembly.

Chief Superintendent of Police David Eklu, Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander, told Ghana News Agency in an interview in Ashaiman that the group broke into the toilet premises, chased out those operating the facility, destroyed some of the padlocks securing the place and started operating the services without lawful authority.

He said investigations are in progress and those found culpable would be dealt with according to the law.

Chief Superintendent of Police Eklu said Ghana is not a lawless state and so people with genuine grievances should channel it through the appropriate means and not take the law into their own hands.

He said nobody is above the law and so anyone who wants to foment trouble should think twice before prosecuting the illegal agenda.
