Obuasi, Nov. 01, GNA - The leadership of Ashanti Regional branch of Civil Servants Association (CSA) has almost completed arrangements for the acquisition of 300 hectares near Kodie in the Kwabre District for a comprehensive housing scheme for its members.
Mr Kwame Asamoah-Dwomo, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the association who announced this at Obuasi, said the idea was to build a community and yet to demarcate the building plots. He was addressing members of Obuasi Municipal branch of the association at Obuasi.
Mr Asamoah-Dwomoh said transfer of officers from their respective districts to other districts had affected the structure of the association in some districts.
Some of the districts included Adansi South, Adansi North, Kwabre, Ahafo-Ano South and Offinso.
Mr Asamoah-Dwomoh announced that the institution of Civil Servants Savings and Loan Scheme in the region had reduced the number of civil servants who sought for loans from the commercial banks. He said it was the vision of the leadership to move the association forward in the region and asked the new executive in the Obuasi municipality to work hard to support the regional executive to realise its vision.
Mr Asamoah-Dwomoh called for dedication, selflessness and commitment from the new executive and appealed to the members to co-operate with the new executive.
A by-election was conducted for a Chairman an d Secretary. Mr Stephen Bekoe, a Senior Accountant at Obuasi Municipal Assembly polled 37 votes to beat Chief Adam Sumaila, an Environmental Health Officer for the chairmanship position whilst Mr Justice Opiah-Mensah, a Senior Personnel Officer also at the assembly became the new Secretary after he was declared unopposed.
