New Edubiase (Ash), Aug. 11, GNA - The Adansi East District Assembly has explained that the committee it set up was not to investigate the District Coordinating Director, Mr Paul Odame Badu and Mr Prince K. Newman, the Budget Officer, over the utilisation of 100 million cedis that was meant for educating the people on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The Assembly said the committee was set up to find out why the sensitisation programme was not successful.
Reacting to media reports, which stated that the District Coordinating Director and the Budget Officer were being investigated, Nana Kwaku Amoah II, Presiding Member, said the Committee was set up following complaints by some Assembly Members that enough sensitisation on the scheme had not been done in spite of the money released for it. The Presiding Member said Mr Newman was the temporary Coordinator for the sensitisation programme and that Mr Badu had no hand in the programme.
He said what the District Coordinating Director did during the assembly meeting on July 21, 2004 when the issue cropped up was to appeal to the Assembly Members to organise their communities to meet the sensitisation team when they came to their communities.
Nana Amoah said the media reports were, therefore, misleading since Mr Badu had nothing to do with the running of the programme and said the Budget Officer had even met the committee but it was yet to submit its report to him.
