Awutu-Bawjiase (C/R) Oct. 10 GNA - The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Assembly intends to provide credit facilities to deserving Cassava Farmers to produce enough cassava to feed the Ayensu Starch Factory at Awutu-Bawjiase in the district.
The Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Chief Executive, Captain Steve Kwamena Armah, who disclosed to this to the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Awutu-Bawjiase on Tuesday commended the government for the establishment of the factory, which, he said is helping to improving the economic standards of the people.
He said that in order to strengthen the Agricultural sector to play a meaningful role to promote productivity, the government intends to improve the performance of farmers and fisher folks by building their capacity through farmers based Organisations and through the involvement of the private sector.
Captain Armah said that the assembly is also devising a strategy to make Farmers Day prizes, at the District Level more attractive and relevant to the business of recipients, to ensure that the interest of farmers and fishermen in the celebration would diminish.
He said that the assembly is also taking steps to rehabilitate some markets in the district; including the Bawjiase market and urged the people to honour their tax obligations to enable it generate more funds for development.
