Assin Adiembra(C/R), Aug. 29, GNA - The District Chief Executive for Assin South, Ms Millicent Alice Kuranchie, has promised to include Chiefs in the award of contracts by the Assembly in their communities. She noted that this would ensure their involvement in the supervision of projects to ensure their early execution and to avoid shoddy work. Speaking during an official visit to Assin Adiembra, she observed that awarding contracts without the involvement of Chiefs encouraged contractors to disregard the sentiments of communities they were executing projects. Ms Kuranchie urged Chiefs to institute festivals to mobilise their citizens residing outside to contribute to the development of the communities. "Festivals can be used to raise funds for development", the DCE noted and expressed regret that the people of Assin did not one to celebrate. She appealed to the Chiefs and people of the area to consider the re-introduction of the traditional "Nnoboa" system of the past.
Mr Ken Briku, District Disease Control Officer, said three Community-based Health Planning Service zones had been created to make health-care delivery accessible to the people and urged communities to provide accommodation for additional ones to be established in their areas.
Mr. Philip Awuah, District Director of Agriculture, commended the mass cocoa spraying gangs in the area for their dedication. Mr. Derrick Owusu-Ambrose, Assembly Member for the area, called for the division of the electoral area to make for effective administration. He noted that even though the town had been connected to the national grid only some few areas were enjoying the facility and appealed for the extension of electricity to the other parts. Mr. Owusu-Ambrose who is also the Senior Pharmacist of the Agona Swedru Government Hospital appealed to the government to provide the town with potable water. Nana Kwasi Nti I, Krontihene complained about the contractor tarring the Assin Foso-Twifo Praso road passing through the town for delaying the project. The DCE paid similar visits to Kwame Amoabeng, Gyinabode Bankyease, Sesekor, Framoase, Asamankese, Achiase and Atobiase. 29 Aug 07
