Effiakuma (W/R), Jan. 3, GNA - Naaba Len Yaaros, Paramount Chief of Bongo, has said it was time for well-meaning citizens including those holding responsible positions in government, industry and other sectors to contribute their quota towards the development of the traditional area. He suggested that wealthy residents and non-resident citizens adopt and sponsor at least one needy school child through his or her education since "education is the bedrock of development of every modern society". Naaba Yaaros was speaking at the inauguration of the Western Region branch of the Bongo So-Olum Association (BOSA) at Effiakuma, a suburb of Takoradi on Tuesday. He said the traditional area was lagging behind in development and all citizens of the area must put their hands on the deck to promote peace and development.
The Paramount Chief advised members of the association to be law abiding, disciplined and work hard to promote peace at wherever they live and be wary of politicians who might try to use them for their own selfish motives. "Each one of you has the right to belong to a political party but if you allow yourself to be misused by the politician, your ranks will be divided to the detriment of unity and development", he said. Mr. Agurugo Asampana, the Bongo District Chief Executive, said the government had completed some projects and called on the people to contribute their quota towards the realisation of the government's efforts.
Mr. David Ayamga, chairman of the association, said members were satisfied with the peace and harmony back home and commended Mr. Asampana and Naaba Yaaros for their able leadership. He appealed to them to team up with other opinion leaders to institute a forum that would bring all non-resident citizens home occasionally to help in the planning the development of the area. Mr. Solomon Ayamga, General Secretary of BOSA said the association, which was formed in September 2005 with 29 members, now has a membership of more than 450. He said the association would contribute to the development of the Bongo District, foster the spirit of unity, patriotism and brotherliness among members and support one another in times of need. Other members of the association who were introduced at the function were Mrs Ernestina Nyaaba, Vice Chairman, Gregory Anaba, Assistant General Secretary, Solomon Aminasah; Treasurer and Mrs Vida Agambire, Women Organiser.
