Atwima-Koforidua builds latrine

Atwima-Koforidua (Ash), Dec 19, GNA - The people of Atwima-Koforidua have completed a 12-seater vault chamber latrine estimated at 80 million cedis through self-help.

Mr Robert Owusu, assemblyman for the area, who briefed newsmen at Atwima-Koforidua on Thursday, said the project was financed through daily tolls realised from the patronage of the sceptic tank latrine in the town.

Mr James Adusei Sarkodie, Member of Parliament (MP) for Atwima-Nwabiagya also donated five million cedis towards the project. Mr Owusu said the community has initiated an extra vault chamber latrine at the cost of over 100 million cedis and that the people would remove the pile-up refuse dump in the town.

The community, Mr Owusu said, lacks vital basic social amenities such as schools, sanitation facilities and a modern market and called on the Atwima District Assembly to help address them.

He said the residents are putting up a computer laboratory to install the three computers and their accessories donated to the basic school by Mr Peter Asante, a citizen of the town resident in Netherlands.

Mr Owusu commended the residents of the town for offering communal labour to complete community-initiated projects and urged non-resident citizens to donate to the area's development.
